Job Description:
Registered Early Childhood Educators for permanent and contract positions required to provide quality childcare for
children 0 to 6 years of age as specified in the License for The Orchard Children’s Centre.

Duties:
•To acknowledge each child “where he/she is at “ in his/her cognitive, social, emotional and physical development
and determine programming that supports and enhances each child’s experience with learning
•To show enjoyment and an understanding of nature and the world around us
•To keenly research information and provide enhancements to the program that foster respect for the world we live in
•To offer a space for children that is calming, natural, and challenges curiosity
•To meet and greet families each day with genuine concern and exchange information that will support the child in his/her day at the Centre
•To understand and comply with the definition of Confidentiality and Privacy
•To understand professionalism as described in the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice from the College of Early
Childhood Educators Ontario
•To comply with the Policies and Procedures of The Orchard Children’s Centre
•To work as a team member in observing, documenting, recording and maintaining portfolios for each child
•To maintain an environment that is organized, orderly, clean and aesthetically pleasing and to recognize when supplies, materials and equipment need replacement
•To work within a moving curriculum which is child driven and educator supported. To keenly support curriculum by creating activities and resources
•Maintain daily records as required by the Ministry of Education CCEYA
•To exhibit enthusiasm for on-going learning, engaging in courses and workshops supporting both individual interest
and the philosophy of the program
•To be an active contributor to the Program Statement of The Orchard Children’s Centre
•To attend staff meetings as required
•To be a keen participant in Quality Assurance Agreements

Required Skills:
Required Skills:
•Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators or a Diploma in an area of study which focused on child development in the early years
•Two years’ experience in an Early Learning setting is preferred
•Keen awareness of the infant, toddler and preschool ages and stages of development
•Familiar with the legislation in The Ministry of Education’s Childcare and Early Years Act and a willingness to comply
with the Policies and Procedures of The Orchard Children’s Centre
•Keen understanding of the Ministry’s documents Early Learning for Every Child Today and How Does Learning Happen?
•A current Criminal Reference Check specific to the requirements of the organization
•A current First Aid/CPR C certificate
•Up to date Immunization record
•Skilled in observation, documentation and pedagogical reflections
•Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
•Enjoyment in working within a socially inclusive environment responding to the diverse needs of children, families and cultures
•Aware of and enthusiastic about partnerships with Service Providers offering support to children within the City of Sault Ste. Marie
•Physical capability to lift and carry, bend and twist while understanding safe principles of movement
•Must enjoy indoor and outdoor activity
•Flexible to the needs of the program as determined by ratio, opening and closing hours and staff needs
•Able to work as a team-player and as an independent decision maker
•Creative, spontaneous and caring
